A large share of BNPL volume in Malaysia still starts next to a product, not in a banking app. The file often looks complete because a terminal workflow forced every field. Completeness is not the same as a genuine application.

We look for compressed timestamps, identical device or staff identifiers across unrelated customers, missing cooling-off acknowledgements, and fee explanations that sit in a PDF the customer never opened. We also read complaint and cancellation notes that sit beside the origination record.

Merchant groups are compared, not to rank ‘good’ and ‘bad’ shops, but to show where the programme’s controls actually bite. A finding that is concentrated in one category of merchant is a different conversation from a finding that appears in every channel.

The report is written for people who have to brief merchant-relationship teams, not for a product launch deck.
